2020 Holiday Style Favorites

It’s pretty safe to say the holidays are going to be pretty f*cking strange this year.

Making plans seems idiotic when another lockdown is more than likely on the horizon. Gatherings are going to be much smaller and intimate… if they’re allowed to happen. NYE parties seem like a thing of the past...or 2019, at least.

If you’re like me, this would be the time of year to start hunting down a show-stealing holiday party fit, that perfect NYE dress, or something chic yet comfortable to wear for Christmas dinner.  And while I won’t be frolicking the streets of Miami like last year or working a busy downtown party like the year prior, I’ll probably still order a little somethin’ somethin’ to celebrate. From home, of course.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite festive looks to make an entrance this season and show-up your family members for no damn reason. (Rhyme unintentional)

I love a good oversized shirt and this one is velvet, none the less. I have a gorgeous gold velvet button-up shirt from the Free People x CP Shades collection and it is one of my favorite statement pieces. I’m glad Free People released another version because I’m dying for this Mango Bronze color (shown above; they also made a velvet maxi in the same color as CP shades top). I think a chunky statement necklace and a fun pair of tights will elevate this dress into a comfortable look that’s both flirty and festive.

Styling:

Bottoms: black tights, black leggings, or black skinny jeans.
Underneath: a lace bodysuit or bralette; a layered chain necklace
Accessories: black combat boots

Reformation | Sky Top

This top is a closet staple that works well from autumn to winter. It’s sexy, it’s elegant, and it can be dressed up or down depending on what the occasion is. I like to wear looser, more flowy tops when I’m seeing family for the holidays because, well, we make a lot of food. This top is perfect for feeling dressed up even when you’re just chilling at home.

Styling:

Bottoms: high-waisted skinny jeans or a fitted mom jean
Accessories: layered gold chokers; chunky gold earrings; ostrich feather purse
Shoes: booties or a funky printed heel

First of all, I know these are ridiculous. They’re way beyond extra and that is exactly why I love them. I have several pairs of FP flares but these are something special. They’re not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. You might be thinking: where am I supposed to wear these during a pandemic? You wear them around the house, to the grocery store, to Thanksgiving dinner. You wear them everywhere.

Styling:

Top: sleek bodysuit & an equally over-the-top cropped fur jacket
Accessories: Cuban chain necklace; layering chains; hoop earrings
Shoes: strappy square-toe heel

Anthropologie | Alistair Velvet Blazer

Admittedly, it took everything in me not to focus on this blazer by Free People, because let’s be honest: I’m quite obsessed with the brand and their holiday look book is fantastic this year. I knew I wanted to incorporate a velvet blazer in this post so the obvious choice was to look to FP’s sister brand, Anthro. The blazer is a simple way to incorporate a little texture into the outfit on those days I want a little flair but I’m not feeling the dress above.

Styling:

Top: turtleneck bodysuit
Bottom: flare pants or skinny jeans
Accessories: embroidered skinny scarf & long chains
Shoes: platforms

Reformation | Disco Dress

I adore Reformation as a brand. They’re a sustainable company, they keep up with current trends, and the clothes are of good quality. I know it’s unlikely that anyone has a reason to wear it this year, but I honestly may order it and hold on to it for next year. The silhouette is very 70’s adjacent, very timeless. (Can a 20-something-year-old call something timeless?) It’s form-fitting and looks like it would be incredibly flattering. I love the Midnight Sparkle color, and I feel like this dress would transition out of the holiday season well.

Styling:

I think sparkly outfits kind of speak for themselves. Keep it simple and let the dress speak for itself.
Accessories:
simple choker; bangles; small clutch or handbag.
Shoes: strappy heels
